I’ve already written several thousand words elsewhere on this subject, so I’m not going to do anything here other than provide a summary:
I’m not happy with the SciFi Channel’s re-definition of what science fiction is. I’m also not happy with what they consider to be the definition of the typical science fiction afficianado – the so-called geeky-young-guy. (I’m a fan and don’t fit the geeky or the young part.)
I’ve gotten tired of complaining and decided to do something about it. So today, I’ve launched the CLASSIC SCIENCE FICTION CHANNEL over at my website.
No, its not on cable – yet. All I’ve done so far is to gather links to shows that ought to be broadcast on such a venture and put them together all in one place. Now, instead of searching through google, you can find most of what’s currently available as streaming video (and downloads too) – all in one place.
Plans? Who knows. If I get enough response, maybe we’ll try and resurrect some other shows or obtain the rights to host some of them ourselves. I truly believe that there’s a huge potential nostalgia market out there, just waiting to be gathered up.
So – take THAT! SFC!
I love it. I think you’ve got something here. This should be a cable channel. Wouldn’t it get as many viewers as the Animal Planet Channel? A stroke of genius IMHO.
I think so. Just look at all the fan sites for each of the classic shows…
now I just need some funding
Nice…. it must have been a lot of work putting all those links together.
Although I can’t help noticing that some of those shows are, IMHO, of just as low quality as what you see on the Sci-Fi Channel.
But I am very grateful for the Twilight Zone link…. I’m making good use of that!
Holy mackeral! This story is up on Boing Boing, posted by Cory Doctorow, and referred by Wil Wheaton! I think my geek-o-meter just shattered! (shadoubi)

Quote:
Wil Wheaton sez, “This guy really loves science fiction, and REALLY hates the Sci-Fi channel for not airing enough classic SciFi. So he found all sorts of shows online, and has created his own incredibly awesome repository of classic science fiction television show links. As far as I can tell, it’s all legal, and there are hundreds of hours of programming to choose from.”
Mine too.
The current entry details how I found out: linked to boing boing to get a correct linkage for the current post and and blam – there it was.
Wil must really be paying attention – and of course I’m totally flattered.
Now, how do I make sure the story perpetuates?
For those of us who love old, classic science fiction cinema and television, our website is wonderful. I especially your inclusion of Things to Come which is in my not so humble opinion of the great films of the 20th century. thank you.
